Not one laser can do everything. The "Power" lies in the combination of lasers and technique.

There's really no mystery to the use of lasers in skincare. Here's how it works:
- The skin resurfacing treatment is basically a very controlled burning procedure during which a laser, or intense pulsed light (IPL), vaporizes superficial layers of facial skin, removing wrinkles and lines caused byfacial expressions, acne scars, folds and creases around the nose and mouth and superficial growths. It creates a fresh surface over which new skin can grow, and can help encourage the skin's own collagen production.
- In the laser body liposculpting, a laser is used on the surface of the body part where there is unwanted fat. The laser treatment works in three steps: the first pulse breaks the fat cell and dissolves the fat into liquid; the second seals off surrounding blood vessels, preventing bleeding; and the third stimulates the production of collagen tissue and causes the skin to tighten.
There's no blood, because the laser seals the blood vessels. It also encourages skin contraction, so there's no loose skin, and minimal bruising.
- In laser hair removal, a laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light, which is absorbed by the pigment located in hair follicles. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling numerous follicles at a time to eliminate or significantly impede the hair's growth.
- In laser vein therapy, the laser produces a highly concentrated beam of light that is attracted by the hemoglobin in the blood vessel. The vessel absorbs the light and is destroyed. The light's deep wavelength is not absorbed by the skin, but goes directly to the vessel, allowing safe treatment of all skin types without burns or blisters.
- In laser tattoo removal, the laser removes tattoo ink by generating a variety of specific wavelengths of light that target different ink colors. Light passes into the skin but is absorbed by the ink. The rabid absorption of light energy causes the tattoo ink to break into tiny particles, which can then be removed by the body.
In general, these and all other laser skin treatments that we do, are virtually pain-free, and most patients who are candidates for laser treatments tolerate the procedure well. Because some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, topical anesthesia can be an option.
